Cosford sleepovers...a night at the museum awaits!

Grab your sleeping bag and get set for a night at the Royal Air Force Museum, as Cosford launches its 'Pillows and Pilots'sleepovers for youngsters!

The Museum is offering groups the chance to set up camp in the giant National Cold War Exhibition, where they will sleep amongst the planes, tanks and missiles!

The evening will be packed with plenty of fun interactive activities including; building and launching K'Nex rocket cars, with a prize for the car which travels the furthest! Plus youngsters can have a go at decorating a ceramic rocket money box and personalising a canvas bag before dressing up, selecting their props and posing for a picture as a memento of the evening.  There won't be any time to get restless during the night either as the Museum will provide everyone with a 'Pillows and Pilot' colouring and activity pack, including wax crayons for those times in between activities or when you want something to do.

At 9pm it will be time for everyone to head into the 200 seat auditorium to watch the movie, 'A Night at the Museum' and enjoy an evening snack and drink, before settling down for the night nestled amongst the historic aircraft.  A continental breakfast will be served the following morning at 8am and from 9am youngsters will have early bird access to the Museum Shop and Test Flight hangar including the Fun 'n' Flight interactive area, with a 50% discount voucher for a ride on the 4D Experience.

RAF Museum Cosford Public Events Manager, Abi Betteridge said:

"We are thrilled to be offering sleepovers at the RAF Museum, it's something we've been asked for, for years!  With one of three dates already fully booked, we would recommend any groups who would like to enjoy this unique experience to book quick!  The pilot events we ran last year were fantastic; the girls had a fabulous time and they even managed to get a few hours' sleep.  We're excited to be welcoming more groups for a sleepover at our amazing venue this year!"

With three sleepover dates scheduled for 2018, each event can cater for up to 175 children aged 8-15 along with supervising adults.  The first sleepover will take place on Saturday 24 March aimed at boys groups, followed by a sleepover aimed at girls groups on Saturday 28 April, which is already fully booked with groups from Girlguiding Staffordshire.  But for any boys or girls groups who miss the first two sleepovers, there will be a third event on Saturday 12 May for mixed groups.

The Museum successfully ran a pilot sleepover event with Girlguiding Shropshire in 2017.

19th Shrewsbury Brownies, who attended the pilot sleepover said:

"The event was really good. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves - our Brownies certainly did.  It really was a brilliant and unique experience which I am sure the girls will remember for a long time.  How many people can say they have slept underneath an aeroplane - not many, but we can!
Sleepovers at the RAF Museum are suitable for organised groups of children aged 8-15 years. They cost 35.00 pounds per child and 5.00 pounds per adult, with a minimum ration of 1 adult for 8 children.  Groups also have the option to purchase a 'Pillows and Pilots' woven badge for just a pound

There are limited spaces available for each sleepover, see for more details and to make a booking.
